The F-35 Lightning II program was featured on the History Channel’s “Modern Marvels” in season 13 in 2007. The episode was titled “Extreme Aircraft II.” The episode dubs the Joint Strike Fighter as, “The future of air combat.” One aviation expert proclaims that the F-35 could represent the final manned fighter before the coming era of unmanned combat air vehicles. A great deal of the footage presents the non-production, experimental X-35 as at the time the episode aired the current F-35 had only first flown a couple months earlier in mid-December, 2006.
